We're looking for startups that want to transform the future of smart sports districts alongside Baskonia-Alavés Group.
Join an international call for innovative solutions in mobility, fan engagement and sustainability in sports events.
The Future of Sports Districts – Startup Challenge is an open innovation initiative driven by Baskonia-Alavés Group and Berriup, with the support of the Provincial Council of Álava, to transform the sports ecosystem into a smart sports district.
The goal is to collaborate with startups that bring innovative ideas and solutions applicable to sport, entertainment and sports events.
Selected startups will have the opportunity to test their solutions in a real environment and collaborate with one of the most innovative sports groups in Europe.
The call is structured around three main verticals.
Innovative solutions for modern transportation challenges.
Solutions that improve mobility to the stadium and within the sports environment.
Goal: Facilitate more efficient and sustainable access to sports events.
Engaging solutions for enhancing fan experiences.
Technologies that improve the relationship with fans throughout the year.
Goal: Connect with fans beyond match day.
Sustainable solutions for a greener future.
Solutions to improve the efficiency and sustainability of events.
Goal: Move towards more sustainable sports events.
Selected startups will have access to a complete sports innovation ecosystem.
The project is supported by the leading institutions and organizations in the innovation ecosystem.
The application period opens on April 24 and will remain open until June 12 (both dates inclusive). Startups and SMEs may submit their solutions aligned with the challenge verticals.
During the month of June, the organizing company and its collaborators will form a jury to review all submitted projects and select the finalists.
Finalists will be contacted before July 10, 2026, and will present their projects to the jury in a virtual session.
Based on these presentations, the jury will select the winning projects, one per challenge and per category (“MVP or existing product” / “disruptive idea”).
The acceleration phase and pilot development will begin in September, enabling the selected startups to work alongside Baskonia-Alavés Group in a real-world environment.
